Deer Park Fellowship (DPF) is a church planted by Coastal Church (CC). In early 2019, CC adopted Deer Park Baptist Church (DPBC) to become a Newport News campus of CC. Both DPBC and CC voted unanimously to move forward with this transition. DPBC had a history of church planting and had been in the community since the 1950s, but it was in need of revitalization. As a result, CC sent Pastor Joey Tomlinson, who had served in various roles at Coastal for many years, to pastor the campus.
The 2019 adoption was intended to strengthen and revitalize the local church, with the hope that, if the Lord allowed, it would become Coastal’s first domestic church plant. After two years of trending as a healthy campus, the elders of Coastal presented a vision to the church membership to plant the campus as a confessionally Reformed Baptist church in Newport News. In February 2021, Coastal Church’s membership officially voted to plant the church as Deer Park Fellowship. The name "Deer Park" was retained as a tribute to the gospel legacy DPBC had built in the Peninsula community. Deer Park Fellowship is a confessionally Reformed Baptist (2LBCF) church and is part of the Southern Baptist Convention.
