Monday
Scripture: 1 Timothy 2:8
8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
Point of focus: This week’s passage will spend a lot of time talking about how our worship services should function each Lord’s Day. So keep that in mind as we go through the week. In today’s passage we should see that it is important for all people to make prayer a priority, but God especially wants men to be diligent in prayer in the church. This sets the tone for the rest of the church. Men also should flee anger and be quick in obedience to the Lord, never delaying by making excuses (which is what quarreling means in this passage).

Tuesday
Scripture: 1 Timothy 2:9-10
9 likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 10 but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.
Point of focus: Today Paul addresses women. In today’s passage, we should pay attention to the principle. Braided hair, gold, pearls, and costly attire is not bad. But for the women at Ephesus is was an outward manifestation of pride. We should never be consumed with ourselves. Women in the church were more focused on what they looked like than on pleasing and worshipping the Lord. Remember that we live to worship God with all our heart soul mind and strength.

Wednesday
Scripture: 11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness.
Point of focus: In Paul’s day and age women were sinfully treated as second-class citizens. Paul here restores the imago Dei (image of God) in these women by reminding them and the church that they were to be present and in a position of learning at the church. Unfortunately, the women were squandering that because of their sinful desires. We must repent of anything that gets in the way of us learning from God’s Word and submitting to it.

Thursday
Scripture: 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.
Point of focus: God created men and women differently and this is good because God only does what is good because He is good. In the gathering of the church, only men are to preach and hold the office of the elder/pastor. This is grounded in God’s created order of things.

Friday
Scripture: 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.
Point of focus: Eve was deceived by the serpent who is the devil and she touched and ate the fruit. Adam failed in his job to protect her. Adam should have crushed the serpent’s head, but instead, he sinned with Eve. But God in His graciousness sent us a better Adam- Jesus Christ who crushed the head of the serpent in His life, death, and resurrection.

Saturday
Scripture: 1 Timothy 2:15
15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
Point of Focus: Women have the most important role to be mothers. But not just physical mothers- more important than that is that women are spiritual mothers. Those women who continue in faith, love, holiness, and self-control- which is to say that they are mindful of their union with Christ, will labor to produce spiritual children. This will be the ultimate undoing of the curse of Eve. When men live before the face of God as men and women as women, there will be spiritual flourishing.
