Catechism Question 9: Who is God? Answer: God is a spirit and does not have a body like men.

Monday

Scripture: As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. (1 Timothy 1:3-4)

Point of Focus: Paul encouraged Timothy to stay at his local church (which was the church of Ephesus). It is spiritually unhealthy to be inconsistent with gathering with God’s church each Lord’s Day and it is spiritually unhealthy to jump from church to church for no godly reason. If we are at a church that loves and fears God and is committed to His Word, we should stay put. God will grow us in His church.

Pray

Sing: Psalm 150

Tuesday

Scripture: As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. (1 Timothy 1:3-4)

Point of Focus: Timothy was the pastor at Ephesus and he was tasked with preaching Christ which meant that he needed to rebuke false teachers and false doctrine. We need to be concerned about honoring Christ and His Word in the way we worship, evangelize, and live. Our entire lives should be governed by our submission and allegiance to Jesus.

Pray

Sing: Psalm 150

Wednesday

Scripture: 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, 11 in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted. (1 Timothy 1:10-11)

Point of Focus: Things contrary to sound doctrine include those things which lead us away from Christ such as the sins listed in today’s passage. We must remember that Christ forgives us no matter who we are or what we do. We should remember that regularly (especially when we take the Lord’s Supper or see a baptism), but we should also tell others that they can be forgiven of their sins too if they will forsake their sins and trust in Jesus alone for salvation. Everyone needs Jesus.

Pray

Sing: Psalm 150

Thursday

Scripture: 2bTeach and urge these things. If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. (1 Timothy 6:2b-5)

Point of Focus: If we find ourselves to be prideful and argumentative, envious of others, and divisive, slanderous, and at odds with people in our church body we should repent. These are indicators that we have embraced a worldview contrary to Christ. The good news is that we can be forgiven and reconciled in Christ Jesus.

Pray

Sing: Psalm 150

Friday

Scripture: As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. (1 Timothy 1:3-4)

Point of Focus: If the Lord saves us, he brings us into His ‘household’. That is what is behind the word ‘stewardship’ (**parents it comes from the Greek-oikosnomiaoikos means household). God takes us (former orphans) and he makes us sons and daughters through the shed blood of Jesus by the power of the Spirit.

Pray

Sing: Psalm 150

Saturday

Scripture: As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. (1 Timothy 1:3-4)

Point of Focus: Not only do we see the word ‘household’ behind the original word for ‘stewardship’ but we also see the word ‘work’ (**parents it comes from the Greek-oikosnomianemein means work or management). As a part of God’s family, we are to work to His glory for the advancement of his kingdom.

Pray

Sing: Psalm 150
