Family Worship Guide: Week of August 29th, 2021
Memory Verse: Matthew 22:39 “And a second is like it “you shall love your neighbor as yourself”.
Catechism Question: Are there more gods than one? Answer: There is only one God.
Scripture for the Week: Various
Monday
Scripture: Hebrews 10:25:
24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Point of Focus: We should be committed to gathering with God’s local church every Lord’s Day to glorify Him as the body of Christ and to encourage one another toward continually glorifying Him with our lives.

Tuesday
Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:13
13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching
Point of Focus: When we come together each Lord’s Day (Sunday) to worship, we are to hear God’s Word read to us and preached to us by a pastor who loves God and is submissive to God’s Word. This is one of the primary ways God grows us to be like Christ.

Sing: Jesus Loves Me
Wednesday
Scripture: Colossians 3:16:
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Point of Focus: We should sing loudly to God. Singing truths (that we find in the Bible) about God to God in the midst of God’s people is one way God’s Word can be in us. It is also a way God helps us to remind each other of who He is and who we are in Christ. Singing is a very important part of worshipping God.

Thursday
Scripture: Philippians 4:4-7:
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Point of Focus: Prayer should be a very important part of our daily walk with God and it should be an important part of what we do when we worship with God’s church on Sunday. Today’s passage even teaches us that when we feel anxious, nervous, or worries, we can pray and give thanks to God knowing that He has everything in control. God is absolutely sovereign over all that comes to pass. That is a comforting thing to remember when we pray!

Friday
Scripture: Colossians 2:11-15
11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
Point of Focus: Our baptism is the entry door into our local church. It is a picture that preaches to us that we are united with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection. It is also a testimony to our church that we have been saved by God’s glorious gospel.

Saturday
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Point of Focus: Christians should take the Lord’s Supper regularly when they are gathered with the rest of the church. When we take the Lord’s Supper Christ is not only spiritually present, but this picture reminds us that Jesus is sufficient as the payment for our sins.
