**This week we are going to work through some of Romans chapter 5 as we help our children to see just how much more potent God’s love, grace, and mercy is when compared to our sins.

Monday

Scripture: Romans 5:7-8

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Point of Focus: Think for a moment about the worse sin you’ve ever committed. Do you feel shame about it? Is it a sin you hope no one finds out about? The verses today remind us that God knows everything about us. He knows just how sinful we are. In fact, he knows our sin better than we know our sin. Yet, in love, he saved us by sending his only Son to die for us. He did this not because we were worth saving, or because we are so great, but he did this because he is good. Jesus died to save you completely. That is very good news.

Tuesday

Scripture: Romans 5:9

Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

Point of Focus: The spilled blood of Jesus makes us right with God. In fact, the spilled blood of Jesus ensures that we will never experience God’s wrath for our sin because Jesus experienced all of God’s righteous wrath for our sins.

Wednesday

Scripture: Romans 5:10

10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

Point of Focus: We were God’s enemies before he acted on our behalf. If God reconciled us—his enemies, how much more will he sustain our salvation for all eternity?

Thursday

Scripture: Romans 5:11

11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Point of Focus: In response to God saving us (his former enemies) and making us allies (putting us on his team) we should rejoice. In fact, we should be joyful—the most joyful of all people. We should worship the Lord that he has made us right with him. For apart from him we could never be made right.

Friday

Scripture: Romans 5:15

15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.

Point of Focus: The saving grace of God is so much more powerful than our sin. Jesus Christ is our Savior. He is our representative. If in Adam, we all inherited a sin nature and commit actual sins on a daily basis, even more than that, will we be saved to the uttermost by Jesus who is the second Adam. His grace covers our sins.

Saturday

Scripture: Romans 5:17

17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

Point of Focus: Adam brought death—both a spiritual and physical death to our lives. But, Jesus brings life and the power of the resurrection.
