Memory Verse: Proverbs 1:8: Hear, my son, your father’s instruction,

and forsake not your mother’s teaching,

Catechism Questions:

Q22: Did Adam and Eve stay Holy and happy? Answer: No, They sinned against God.

Q23: What is sin? Answer: Sin is any transgression of the law of God.

Monday

Scripture: Ephesians 6:1

“Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right”

Point of Focus: This week we are going to look as passages of Scripture that harmonize with our memory verse. Today we see the Apostle Paul instructing the children at the church of Ephesus on the importance of obeying parents. To obey is to submit. To obey “in the Lord” is to submit joyfully.  It brings honor and glory to God when children obey their parents. It is worship to the Lord for children to obey their parents. God has given us parents to to teach us right from wrong and most importantly, to point us to Jesus.

Tuesday

Scripture: Proverbs 4:1

4 Hear, my children, the instruction of a father,

And give attention to know understanding;

2 For I give you good doctrine:

Do not forsake my law.

Point of Focus: The rest of this week we are going to look at various proverbs and one passage in 3 John as it relates to children obeying their parents and walking in the Lord. In today’s passage, we see the author of Proverbs (who was the wisest man who ever lived! Solomon) encourage children to not just hear the instruction of a father, but to enter into it (which is what the word “understand” is getting at). A wise child will embrace the instruction of a father who counsels God’s Word. So, kids when your parents speak of God and his word, listen closely and embrace what they are telling you as true!

Wednesday

Scripture: Proverbs 15:5

5 A fool despises his father’s instruction,

But he who receives correction is prudent.

Point of Focus: Correction according to God’s word is good and profitable for us. When your Mom and Dad correct you, know they are doing it to honor God and for your eternal good. They are seeking to deter you from the path of misery and destruction and help point you toward the path of life everlasting—which is the path toward Jesus.

Thursday

Scripture: Proverbs 10:1

A wise son makes a glad father,

But a foolish son is the grief of his mother.

Point of Focus: Nothing brings parents more joy than to see their children walk with the Lord. Nothing is more devastating to a parent than to see their children walk the path of destruction.

Friday

Scripture: 3 John 4

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Point of Focus: The most important thing you can do in your life is to walk in the truth which is to walk in Christ Jesus who is the Truth.

Saturday

Scripture: Proverbs 29:3

3 Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice,

But a companion of harlots wastes his wealth.

Point of Focus: You can waste your life going down the road of bad companions that point you away from wisdom, which points you away from Jesus. In contrast, look to who your godly parents are pointing you toward. Watch closely how they walk. How they confess sins. How they repent of sins. How they trust in Jesus who is the ultimate source of wisdom because he is the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24)
