Catechism 17: Of what were our first parents made? Answer: God made the body of Adam out of the ground, and formed Eve from the body of Adam.

Scripture: Genesis 1:27
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
Point of Focus: You have dignity and value because you were created in the image of God. Animals were not created in God’s image, angels were not created in God’s image—the only creature that images God is man and woman.

Scripture: Genesis 1:27
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
Point of Focus: Continuing from yesterday, we are made according to God’s likeness. A part of what this means is that we exercise dominion (a big theme in Scripture) over the earth. Just as God cultivated the first garden in Eden for his glory, so are we to cultivate the whole earth to know and worship our Creator.

Point of Focus: Another aspect of imaging God and having dominion is that we are to be good stewards of this world. We are to take good care of God’s creation because he entrusted it to us and because it echoes the care he has for us.

Scripture: Psalm 139:13-14
13 For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
Point of Focus: Just as God created Adam and Eve, so does He knit every single life together in the womb. God is intimately and intricately involved in every aspect of your life. He is not distant. He is near and our very existence is proof that he is near.

Point of Focus: We do not have self-worth like many of the self-esteem messages in our culture tell us. We have worth because we have a Creator who fashioned us. That means that our worth is determined by God. God fashioned us, God breathed life into us and sent his Son to die for us- all for his glory and because he loves his image-bearers—he loves us.

Point of Focus: The very reason that God made us was so that we could find our joy and delight in praising Him.
