Family Worship Guide: Week of August 22nd, 2021

Joey Tomlinson   -

Memory Verse: Matthew 22:39: “And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself”

Catechism Question: Why ought you glorify God? Answer: Because He made and takes care of me.

Scripture for the Week: Various

Monday

Scripture: and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher; all is vanity (Ecclesiastes 12:7-8)

Point of Focus: We all have a body and a soul. If we are Christians and we die, our body goes back to the dust where it came from and our soul goes immediately to the Lord who gave it to us.

Tuesday

Scripture: 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

Point of Focus: Jesus saved the thief on the cross who could do absolutely nothing to save Himself. This should teach us that no matter who we are or what we’ve done, we can be saved by Jesus.

Pray

Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death

Wednesday

Scripture:  23 I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. 24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. (Philippians 1:23-24)

Point of Focus: Paul loved serving God by serving His church, but He looked forward to being with Jesus one day. And because He knew that his death meant that He would be with Christ, he did not fear it because He knew that death was an enemy conquered by Jesus.

Pray

Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death

Thursday

Scripture: 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28)

Point of Focus: God is in control over our body and soul. Therefore, we should live for Him and His glory. We shouldn’t fear anything that man can do to us because God is much more powerful than man. We want to rest in the finished work of Jesus and live unashamedly for Him no matter the cost because it is worth it.

Pray

Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death

Friday

Scripture:  28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. (John 5:28-29)

Point of Focus: One day every person who has ever died will rise from the grave- their souls will be united with their bodies. And they will all bend a knee to the Lordship of Jesus. Christians will do so to the resurrection of life and those who are not Christians will face judgment and the eternal wrath of God in hell.

Pray

Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death

Saturday

Scripture: 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. (Romans 8:18-21)

Point of Focus: God is Jesus is making all things new. One day we will be with Jesus face to face for all eternity in the new heaven and earth and we will worship Him without any hindrance of sin or suffering. All of creation longs for this Great Day.

Pray

Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death
