Family Worship Guide: Week of August 15th, 2021

Joey Tomlinson   -

Memory Verse: John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave us His one and only Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”

Catechism Question: Why ought you glorify God? Answer: Because He made me and takes care of me.

Scripture for the Week: Colossians 1:15-20

Monday

Scripture: 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Point of Focus: Jesus is the only acceptable image of God because Jesus is truly God and truly man and will be so forever. Also, Jesus is the rightful possessor of all things. This means that Jesus is the owner and ruler over everything.

Pray

Sing: Holy, Holy, Holy

Tuesday

Scripture: 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

Point of Focus: Jesus alongside of the God the Father and God the Holy Spirit created absolutely everything. Our Triune God (Father, Son, Spirit) is the Creator and Sustainer of all things both visible and invisible.

Pray

Sing: Holy, Holy, Holy

Wednesday

Scripture: 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Point of Focus: Jesus has always existed. There was never a time in which He began. This further teaches us that Jesus is God. Also, everything that is created is held together by Christ Jesus.

Pray

Sing: Holy, Holy, Holy

Thursday

Scripture: 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

Point of Focus: Jesus represents and cares for His church whom He has saved. And just as Jesus bodily raised from the dead, so shall the members of His church one-day bodily rise from the dead and be with Him forever in the new heavens and the new earth.

Pray

Sing: Holy, Holy, Holy

Friday

Scripture: 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,

Point of Focus: Christ did not give us being God when He became a human. Jesus who has always been truly God became truly man without subtracting any of His God-ness (His deity).

Pray

Sing: Holy, Holy, Holy

Saturday

Scripture: 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Point of Focus: Christ made peace and provided reconciliation between us and the Father through His shed blood on the cross. If we want peace- true peace- we look to Jesus.

Pray

Sing: Holy, Holy, Holy
