Deer Park Family Worship Guide
Memory Verse: Matthew 22:37 “And He said to them “You shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all of your soul, and with all of your mind”.
Catechism Question: What else did God make? Answer: God made all things.
Scripture: Various
Monday
Scripture: 22 At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the colonnade of Solomon. 24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. (John 10:22-26)
Point of Focus: Only Jesus’ sheep (His people) believe and hear His voice (through His Word). Those who continue in their unbelief of Jesus as Lord show that they are not and never have been His sheep. Christ’s sheep are characterized by their belief in Him.
Prayer
Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death
Tuesday
Scripture: 22 At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. (John 10:22-26)
Point of Focus: Jesus is very clear (and we can see this especially if we read John’s gospel!) that He is truly man and truly God. The Pharisees (who were the religious leaders of the day) did not believe that Jesus is truly man and truly God because they were not Christians. An old dead guy named St. Augustine (he was what we call a church father!) once said that belief comes before understanding. This is certainly the case in our Christian life. The longer we walk with the Lord, the more we understand. Yet, even those things which we do not understand, we can rest in quiet trust and submission to our good Shepherd, Christ.
Prayer
Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death
Wednesday
Scripture: 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:27-28)
Point of Focus: If we are in Christ (that is if we are Christians) Jesus promises that no one and nothing can ever snatch us away from Him. He holds us fast in His hand.
Prayer
Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death
Thursday
Scripture: 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” (John 10:29-30)
Point of Focus: Not only does Christ hold us firmly in His hand, but because He is one with the Father, He and the Father hold us tightly. The point Christ is making is that we are truly secure in Him forever.
Prayer
Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death
Friday
Scripture: 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. (2 Peter 1:3-5)
Point of Focus: Christ is truly sufficient for everything pertaining to life and godliness. This means that not only is Christ sufficient for our salvation, but He has given us all that we need to daily walk with Him.
Prayer
Sing: Christ our Hope in Life and Death
Saturday
Scripture: 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. (John 6:37)
Point of Focus: If you come to Jesus, He will never send you away. He will never leave you. He will never cast you out.
