Memory Verse: Matthew 6:9-13: Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Catechism Question 18: What did God give Adam and Eve besides bodies? Answer: He gave them souls so they could never die.

Catechism Question 19: Have you a soul as well as a body? Answer: Yes, I have a soul that can never die.

Monday

Scripture: Luke 1:49

49  for he who is mighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.

Point of Focus: We are returning this week to our memory verses and looking at other passages of Scripture to help us better understand Jesus’ prayer. Today we see the word “hallow” or “holy” used recorded by Luke and in it speaks of how the works of God— the “great things” he has done help us to see, appreciate, and wonder at his holiness all the more. Today, go around and talk about one great thing God has done for you and thank Him for it.

Scripture: Isaiah 6: 1-3

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;

the whole earth is full of his glory!”

Point of Focus: Isaiah was a prophet of God. And in today’s passage, we see his official calling to be a prophet for God. It came through a vision from God in which Isaiah saw Him up on a high and lofty throne above the temple. And all around the Lord, these fierce unfallen creatures called “seraphim” who had six wings sang in unison “Holy holy, holy” and when we see that we should think “Holy is the Father! Holy is Jesus the Son, and Holy is the Holy Spirit the whole earth sings and testifies to the holiness of our Triune God.

Scripture: Matthew 13:31-32

31 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

Point of Focus: Jesus taught us to pray for His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. Today many Christians look around at what they see and they forget this prayer and mission of Jesus—many Christians can get discouraged by all the sin and suffering they experience and see. And this can cause us to have a gloomy, pessimistic perspective. But today’s passage reminds us that God’s Kingdom coming on earth is certain but gradual, and initially overlooked. But God’s kingdom will grow and expand and become obvious and cover the entire earth bringing heaven and earth into harmony with one another. God’s Kingdom is here, Jesus brought it with Him in the first advent, and it is expanding. Be encouraged!

Thursday

Scripture: Matthew 13:33

33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”

Point of Focus: Today we have another Kingdom parable. Jesus tells us that his kingdom (much like the mustard seed yesterday) may go unnoticed for a time, but it is gradually working out all of the sin and suffering, and one day when Jesus returns, He will put an end to the final enemy that is death.

Friday

Scripture: Matthew 6:34

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Point of Focus: God really is the Giver of all things and this should comfort us. Our good God will give us what we need. It may not be what we want, but it is what we need. God knows what is best for us and He always comes through for us day by day.

Saturday

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:7

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Point of Focus: Humility can be a soothing balm to anxiety because when we are humble we recognize that it is God’s providential mighty hand that provides for us and guides us. And we serve a God that really does care for us.
